Well, this is kind of interesting! A Bar Behavior Class. Now I know you are probably thinking "Hey, dogs should never drink alcohol!" and you would be very correct, but this class teaches us how to act when we go out with you to those dog-friendly restaurants and bars, not how to drink. This particular class is in New Mexico, but maybe if I look around enough, I can find some more. According to their website Animal human nm, the class is held on the last Saturday of every month and the cost is only $15. It looks like it would be a good social hour for the humans as well.

A while back, one of our Facebook friends Angela suggested we look into a theme-park that was dog-friendly called Knoebels. (If you are not our Facebook friend consider becoming one, we are listed as ThemeTrip, of course, and we have an awesome community). So, we checked it out and she was correct, they allow us dogs. Yippee! For those unfamiliar, Knoebels is an amusement park in Elysburg, PA that is the "world's largest free-admission amusement park" and the best part for us is that they allow dogs to hang out with our families. We are even allowed to go on the little train with our human. With lots of activities and rides, it is a great place to take the rest of the family as well. Dogs must be on the leash at all times and up-to-date with vaccinations, but they like us, they really like us. Thanks again Angela for the tip! So, when my favorite humans went to San Francisco without me (I know, ridiculous right?), they knew they had to bring me back something special. So they looked up unique pet stores around town and decided to check out this pet boutique at Ghirardelli Square called the Yap Store. Lucky them, because when they went there to check it out, they got to meet this cool pup named Pronto and her super-friendly dad. Pronto was enjoying her day hanging around the shop and my humans noticed that, besides the fact that she was very well-mannered, she had on this interesting harness vest. This special harness, it turns out, is a special vest made in the USA called a Yap Harness which not only helps keep dogs from sweating (which is very important to us hairless dogs or those that tend to overheat) but the harness also had a quick attachment to snap into a car seat. Brilliant idea! I am not one for hearing the snap of anything close to my body, and my current harness has one of those "click" things that always make me jump. This super awesome harness they bought me, a bright orange one that makes my eyes stand out, and, by the way, is very manly on me, has Velcro instead. Seriously, this is so much nicer to use and super easy to put on. The best part of this harness is that you can attach a quick leash, buckle us in safely, or pick us up quickly in case another big dog heads our way. I'm not afraid of them, mind you, but my human gets a bit skittish. This is my new favorite harness to wear around and go for walks in. So, once my humans were sure they loved it on me as much as I loved it, they chatted with the Yap crew for more details. Sure enough, you can either check out their ultra cool store where you might get to meet Pronto and have a nice chat with his dad Liy who knows everything Yap or, if you don't happen to live in San Francisco, you can get one online. Score!! By the way, there is a great add-on product they sale, the seatbelt. I love this because it easily clips to the top of the harness and then buckles right into your regular seat belt. Super easy and helps my humans to not have to loop the seat strap around my harness and I have a little more room to sit comfortably. Photo: Pronto is an adorable, and very loved 7 year old Italian Greyhound. She enjoys long walks, and being pampered. Her favorite foods are carrots and salmon. She was also awarded the best mannered in her obedience school and now works as a super model for Yapstores. We think she makes a wonderful model. Some of the best Bed and Breakfasts also can include us dogs. Though they may be hard to find, I have checked out some of the ones that have gotten high marks from my canine crew. Of course, we probably can't sit on their couches, but my bud Darwin is well-behaved, so he only does that at home. Homestead Rehoboth in Rehoboth Beach always comes out with high marks from both canine and humans! They only cater to adults and their dogs but that works for me. With plenty of room to roam on a two acres, this farmhouse B & B is decorated in a cozy cottage style just three miles from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Homestead Rehoboth has received lots of awards for taking good care of us! The Inn at Restful Paws Lodging and More located in Holland, Sturbridge, Brimfield area "is unique in many ways. First, we are not only Pet Friendly; we are a one-of-a-kind truly Pet-Orientated lodging in Central Massachusetts. Situated on a private 31-acres this pet themed B & B offers amenities to both pets as well as their families. Every morning a complimentary, healthy, Restful Paws breakfast is served for your enjoyment." Their guest wing gets double paws up from us since it is also handicap accessible! I will continue to spotlight some amazing B & B's in the next couple months so check back. A nice B & B can sure feel like home. Photo of our pal Darwin. We just love him! Well would you look at this amazing dog serving along side Staff Sgt. Jessie Keller Johnson, an Air Force Dog Handler. Chrach (pronounced Crash) is one of the military working dogs in the Division Canine Unit. I have nothing but respect for what these dogs (and their human friends) do for our country so I wanted to give a bark out to my fellow canine. They both look pretty tough to me! We see you getting on your cycling gear and pulling your bike out of the garage. Don't think for a minute we miss that you are leaving without us. Have you heard about these fun little contraptions they call a Doggyride? Well, for all you cyclers, you can actually bring us along! Imagine a leisurely day for us canine spent cruising along all on our human's energy. I figured my human might need a bit more information on this, so I went on a few websites and found that there are many different types of trailers and carriers available so you can find one just our size. Some would be good for a simple ride round the neighborhood and others for a full on cross country adventure. I, personally, do not see myself spending a whole lot of time in one because I get anxious, but I am all in for a fun leisure ride. I hear us dogs are also great for helping on your workout regime. We add a little weight, so you get a little better work out. You're welcome! Dog-friendly parks have been popping up all over the US. From parks with water features, to obstacle courses, and even extensive walking trails. I will be exploring a lot of them and giving my brethren my feedback, but since Halloween is coming soon, I wanted to find one that had a Halloween activity that included dogs. One of the dog parks I would love to visit is in New York. Tompkins Square Dog Run often makes the list for top 10 because it has a surface of crushed stone (also known as sand) and three swimming pools. There are picnic tables so the family can join us and after we are done playing there are bath areas and hoses that you can use to spray off your pet. Ya... that bathing thing sounds no fun to me! What does sound like a lot of fun is their 23rd annual dog parade on Oct 26th, 2013 at noon. This fundraiser, the Halloween party, is the big event to raise the money needed to maintain the run. In previous years, the attendance was more then 400 dogs. Sounds like the biggest dog Halloween party to me! Now I just have to plan my costume that will play up my adorable side. I hear they have some neat prizes. Other Halloween events for dogs: 13th annual Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade (Oct. 27) Marina Vista Park, Long Beach, Calif. Petsmart's Online Halloween Cute Monster Photo Contest with lots of great prizes! Spooky Pooch Parade at Chicago Botanical Garden (Oct. 19) – Glencoe, Ill. Photo: Genghis is a 32 lbs. French Bulldog. According to his human "He enjoys football, frisbee, and taking long naps. He loves all kinds of treats, he even likes kale! He occasionally goes out in the yard and picks the low hanging pears off the trees and eats them. He is a character." We agree and also think he is absolutely adorable! My sassy cousin Guinness, (a 2 year old, 12 pound little gal who is a Hairless American Terrier like me) is so spoiled that she argues when she is left behind. Yep, she really argues! We all try not to laugh as she objects by talking to herself and walking away from the group. So here is one for you, little miss attitude, on amusement parks. Disneyland/Disneyworld: Now this place is for all of us! Kennels are even located right at the entrance. Take note as it is first come, first served. I did call and check and was pretty disappointed I could not ride any of the rides, but heck, I am here with my family so you wont get a bark out of me... Walt DisneyWorld, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot have kennel locations. Because so many visitors choose to bring their pets, these theme parks have made it easy to travel with your favorite side kick. Dogs are welcome of course, but they also allow those strange creatures you call cats, as well as “pocket pets” like gerbils, and hamsters. Guess what else? The Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot also offer cuddle time, ice cream breaks, and extra walks for an extra charge, but I am worth it right? Don't forget to talk to them about my food arrangements and, not that I need it now, but they take care of any medication needs for a charge. Some also offer sleepover arrangements. Whoo Hooo! Sea World: according to their website SeaWorld "provides a pet facility for $10 per day. It operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. We do not take reservations for this facility. Kennels are approximately 4ft by 8ft and are outside under some coverage. SeaWorld is not responsible for your pet. You must bring your own bowls and food. You may use the water available onsite and visit your pet throughout the day." So my bit of advise, Just call ahead to make sure everything is on the up and up so you do not have any sticker shock when you get there. Us canine get very anxious and excited with all the noise, sites, and of course smells, that we will not want to leave once we get there. Nothing says vacation like being with my family and friends, relaxing, having a bowl of fresh water, a few treats, and hanging by the lake. Well, I have told you before, I am not a water dog, so I am going to tell you about my little Cuz Rusty who LOVES all things water. That dude even loves to ride on the speed boat under the close supervision of his human and wearing his trusty, yet stylish, life jacket. Rusty and his two brothers head out for a family house boat vacation every year for at least a week. Wow, that is one lucky pup. Many of the houseboats you can rent are dog-friendly, excluding the deluxe models. As long as you stay on a leash when you are off the boat and never be left unattended, it is smooth sailing with the boat patrol. According to the Lake Powell website: General Pet Policy: All Pets must be kept on a leash at all times when in public. Pets must never be left unattended. Guest must clean up after their own pets. Houseboat Pet Policy: $10.00 per pet, per day fee charged and must be paid at time of boat pick-up. There is no limit as to how many pets. Pets are not allowed on the 75' Odyssey, 75' Excursion, 62 journey. Powerboat Pet Policy: Pets are allowed on the 19' Powerboats with no fee. Pets are allowed on the 36' Weekender. Pets are allowed on the 20' Ski Boats or 23' Centurians for a $10 non-refundable fee. Check out the world's biggest beagle AND they welcome man's best friend! I may not be a beagle, but I sure do love their style. Check out the cool 2-story deck to bark from. And the bonus, four of my human friends can stay here with me! Website states: "Responsible pets arriving with their well-behaved humans are welcome to stay with prior approval $15/pet non-refundable deposit" |
Dog-friendly Tips Tank had been posting about his adventures and recommendations for a many years now. As a senior dog his explorations grew limited. He also battled with Canine Cognative Disorder his last two years. I am saddened to announce Tank took his last walk just two months shy of his 15th birthday. Categories
