Orlando, Florida's Unique McDonalds

11/14/2014

Usually, our unique restaurants are reserved for out-of-the-box places, but this McDonald's is really different and worth mentioning. This particular McDonald's has one of the largest indoor play areas as well as a unique menu. Sure, it has the typical fare, without a dollar menu, but it also has things like Belgium waffles, pizza, and an odd mix of food items. Inside the large playroom you will find a giant play area as well as arcade games upstairs. Downstairs, they have a large seating area along with two display cases to showcase the items you are not use to seeing in your local McDonalds. The drive through menu is the same, so I am guessing you have to know what they serve already to order from it. If you are in town with the kids, make sure and check this place out.

Mining Camp Restaurant- Apache Junction, Arizona

If you are heading to Arizona anytime soon, make sure and check out the Mining Camp. The Camp is located East of Mesa, Arizona, in a city called Apache Junction.  Based on the legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold, this area boosts a few mining attractions. The Mining Camp has been around for sometime and is a local favorite to bring out of town guests. They serve the meal family-style. All-you-can-eat with mounds of BBQ ribs, baked chicken and stuffing, ham and pineapple sauce, along with side dishes. The prices are reasonable at $20 p.p and you can often times find coupons when you come into town. The drinks and desserts are extra.

The view is spectacular. Backed up to the mountain and decorated with old western flair it makes a great picture spot. They even have a cute trade store inside for things like fool's gold and kitschy western toys.

Donut Bar in San Diego

Donut Bar: San Diego.  If you are looking for a unique yet delicious treat while you are in San Diego, check out the Donut Bar. What ever you do make sure you get their early since they sell out quickly.  This fun little stop always has a line.  What I like best about them is that they have cute theme donuts.  Don't misunderstand, they  taste amazing, especially the bacon/maple and the bourbon/maple, but for someone who is always looking to add a little fun to a trip, the theme hits the spot.  We got their early during Comic Con and made our way back to the hotel with these in tow, lets just say we were instantly popular.

They are located at 631 B st.  The parking is the meter type but we went early enough to have no problem.  One of the locals told me that you can pre-order the day before but only if you will be ordering a dozen.  That would have been no problem for me.  They also have cold chocolate and strawberry milk on tap!
*while the Deadpool and Capt. America donuts were by far the cutest ones, they were not as tasty as the others.  You pay for the art and it was a big hit.

Tim's Place

Who isn't in the mood for a fun, unique restaurant where hugs are on the menu? In Albuquerque, New Mexico, there is a restaurant called Tim's Place that is known as "the world's friendliest restaurant" and this slogan is spot-on. This fantastic find is owned and operated by Tim, a very successful and wildly happy young man with Down's syndrome. The story of Tim's place is not only beautiful, but also inspirational. Tim is so driven that, after his  success in Special Olympics, his goal was to be one of the world's first men with Down's Syndrome to own his own restaurant.

Tim's Place Albuquerque: Service With A Smile!  When you walk in, the first thing you find is that the restaurant offers "breakfast, lunch, and hugs" and there is even a hug counter on the wall. The food items relate directly to Tim's life and accomplishments. Not only is Tim a very accomplished athelete, the food  he serves is great! We were lucky enough to be welcomed at the door by Tim himself and we absolutely made sure and got our free hug! I would really recommend the French Toast Bread Pudding as it is DELICIOUS.

The Mission In Old Town Scottsdale, AZ

If you get a chance, make sure you stop by the Mission.  Homemade to-die-for corn tortilla street tacos, homemade salsa, and a great ambiance.  The location and the decor  screams Old Town.  This building has been here for quite some time but has been updated and has a chef with the perfect touch. Very friendly staff as well.  We tried the ghost pepper salsa just to say we did but just a touch, tasty but very hot! This makes our list for unique restaurants based on their very unique menu, ambiance, and the historic history of the building itself.
