Beaches for Dogs

Dog-friendly beaches are Mother Nature's dog parks. Not all beaches allow us canine, but the ones that do get two paws up from me! There are a few friendly beach areas around the US,  so I checked a few of them out. I will continue to check out more and share them with my friends, but for now here are five awesome ones. The great news is that some even have campgrounds where we can get back to our roaming days of exploring the great outdoors.

FLORIDA

Ft. De Soto Paw Playground in Saint Petersburg, Fl has a dog park where dogs are allowed on the beach if they stay in the designated area. They have two fenced areas for those big dogs as well as for us little ones with water stations as well as a lot of area for dogs to explore, including an old Spanish Fort.  Ft. De Soto also has overnight camping available and you guessed it, we are welcome with our humans.  @pineellascounty(dot)org

Dog Beach, Ft Myers, Fl
According to the leepark(dot)org website facility info, "Dogs can roam leash-free from dawn to dusk. There's even a 'kayaking with canine' program so you and your best pal can paddle off into the sunset together.  "There are no restroom facilities for humans, and no running water for either species, so come prepared."

CALIFORNIA

Huntington Dog Beach, California
This place might just be doggy heaven. We canine can run leash-free over 1-mile of beach, sand, and waves. It is only about 10 miles from Disneyland, so if we are taking a road trip there, lets stop off and get our sun on. Dog Beach is maintained by a nonprofit organization, so they do sell T-shirts and you can always offer a donation to keep the  maintenance of this location up. @dogbeach(dot)org

CHICAGO

Montrose Dog Park, Chicago
Located at the NW corner of Montrose Beach on Lake Michigan, dogs can roam leash-free. It's usually open from dawn -  9 p.m. The entry is free, but you do need a $5 tag to get into the dog-friendly areas. Consider giving a donation to the Montrose Dog Owners group since they are the ones that keep it up for us. @mondog(dot)org

SOUTH CAROLINA

Edisto Island Town Beach and State Park, South Carolina
About an hour drive from Charleston, the park's 1.5-mile sand beach leash laws are in effect, and also on the town beach May through October. You can pitch a tent in the 1,255-acre state park's oceanside campground and there is a lot to do here.  They have fishing, boating, hiking, and biking.

    Dog-friendly Tips

Tank had been posting about his adventures and recommendations for a many years now. As a senior dog his explorations grew limited. He also battled with Canine Cognative Disorder his last two years. I am saddened to announce Tank took his last walk just two months shy of his 15th birthday.

For those who are his fans, know that he was always spoiled and loved. His explorations with us are our fondest memories.

Make sure to browse Tank's extensive archives for tons of ideas to enjoy with your best
    friend.
