Whistle Activity Monitor

There is a new device that hit the market and, depending on your dog, this might be a great device for you. My humans bought it for me for three reasons. The first was that, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm getting a little older and sometimes I have a hard time getting around. They used it to tell them if I was staying in one place or moving around when they were not with me. Darn that arthritis.

The second reason was that they wanted to know what I was doing when they were gone. This little device became a tattle teller!  That is my big complaint. It was easy for them to tell when I was outside barking. My activity monitor shot up. That made them take action so that I was not driving my neighbors crazy. Really though, it was not my fault. It was that darn dog behind me that keeps tempting me out.

The third reason was that it let them know if I did not have enough exercise in a day. The good news was that most of the time I did, but when I didn't, they made sure to make up for it.
We waited for a while to post on it because I really thought it was important to give it time to see if it was one of those gadgets I would only use at first.  I like this device. It is pretty pricey and I don't find myself using it as much now that they know my schedule and how much exercise I need,  but they can use it for the other dogs in our family and check in with them. It is not set only for me.

One of my favorite reasons I liked the Whistle company is that they have my handsome face on their website. They realize my potential!  Not really, my picture is up there since we bought it when it first came out. It was their way to show their appreciation. I'm the blog dog. Pretty cool, huh?
As a side note, because I am hairless and my skin is very sensitive, my Whistle device was placed on my soft collar.  It worked much better for me this way.  I hear they now have a GPS tracker for the Whistle. I think that was a wise decision for those pups that like to roam.

Bark Box Review

7/4/2014

My human's gave in and finally bought me the Bark Box.  After seeing post after post show up on their Facebook feed, they finally decided to buy into the hype and try it out. Mostly because I told them that it would be a great post for my viewers. Certainly not because I just wanted to try it.  It was all about you, my readers.

Well, enough of that tall "tail". The real reason they gave in was because they are kinda soft for companies that donate to shelters. They were sent a code for a portion of the funds to go to the Sachi Boxer Rescue, and they caved like a badly built dog house.  Just for your own information, you don't have to give to a specific shelter. They give to shelters automatically when you sign up but I know that Sachi always appreciates the designation.  So, on to my review.

I received my first box about two weeks after the purchase. Feel free to check out my reaction on the video above. I love treats and packages that smell wonderful, as you can tell.  I went straight to the one with the best smell.  This was my first box and I will take a photo for the next six months and add it to the photo box below, so check back and see the latest. The value seems to be good and in line with the products. I thought the quality was very good. Maybe you could search them out yourself and buy them individually, but this is an easy way not to forget your favorite friend once a month. I will continue to update with every Bark box I get so that you can make an educated decision to purchase one.  I think I may have checked off the wrong sized dog on my box choice (I entered the 20-50 lbs since  I usually am rough on toys and am 20 lbs) since the bone (Zukes) I liked right away for the smell says for dogs 90 lbs and bigger.  It was taken away from me pretty quickly and then cut up once my humans read the weight recommendation. Trust me, I would not have stopped at any imaginary 20 lb mark.  It was delicious!  The Bionic orange toss toy was a bit big for a 20 lb dog and at first I ignored it thinking it was too big, until they put a treat in it and then it became my favorite toy.  So, we went on their website and it was pretty simple to change my preference to the small-dog size (zero to 20 lbs) online with them. I will let you know how it goes with the next box.

So far, the only draw back I have heard from some people that I have talked to about the Bark Box with is that they require you to pay the full amount upfront for the multi-month discount. A few people said they would have signed up for the six month or a year if they would just do a typical subscription style that is billed monthly.  (On a budget, the full amount out at once could be a stretch) Just an FYI.

Neither my human nor I received compensation or a trial product for this review. Even if they had, I always give my honest opinion.

Delivery #2:  P.L.A.Y Crab toy valued at $14 which I loved for its squeaky toy and logs to play a soft tug with!  This box is most certainly the right side for me (20 lbs. and under.  Loopies Corduroy whale toy valued at $10 is a Muah.. not to interesting and the tag says made in China. Out it goes.  PetSafe indigo triple chews valued at $10 which is another great pick, they are good for teeth and have probiotics for digestion. I bet my humans get these for me again. Mr. Barksmith's pina colada smoothie valued at $2, a frozen treat I cannot wait to try once it is done being frozen. I will let you know how I like it.  Think Dog Louisiana crab jerky valued at $7, these are the perfect size treats for me.  Some people say they smell bad, but I can find these anywhere which makes them perfect for toys that hide treats, and they are natural.  Score.  This box rates a five paws up.

Delivery #3: An adorable lobster theme pack just arrived.  It contained a muddy buddy dog mop which would be very cool for dogs with actual hair.  I do not, but it is pretty soft.  I will like it anyways.  Value $12, The Bocce bakery lobster rolls are perfect in both size and value which is said to be $10, the Safemade Nautical bandana is cute but I refuse to wear one. the value is $8, Love, love, love the Bixbi Daily essentials chicken breast jerky. It is wheat, corn and soy free. Valued at $10, and last but not least the pet rageous lobster toy that is just my size and has my nemesis in it... The squeaker! Valued at $6.  All in all, this month is a great value and perfect for my size.

Delivery #4: It's football time!!  I absolutely love these theme boxes since it makes them extra special.  This month I got a Loopies Letterman jacket value $10, a Nootie Jerky Burger BBQ Duck treats value $7, Etta Say Rabbit chew value $3, Safemade Berkley pennant value $6, and a Petsafe indigo smokehouse strips $7.  My very favorite this month is the letterman jacket. Perfect size chew toy with a great squeaker. I might have given it 5 paws up but it was not a Notre Dame jacket.  This months box is a good value!

Delivery#5:Halloween Box: So cute this month. I received a Simply Fido Ghost, value $7. Barkworthies Sweet potato, value $8. Hare of the Dog rabbit jerky, value $10. Plush puppies invincibles cat, value $7. Tristix Peanut and Carob Chews, Value $7. Superior Farms Lamb Nik-Knacks chews, Value $4. Making this months box a total value of...$43

Puzzles for Dogs

6/20/2014

Have you ever wondered if your dog would enjoy one of the pup puzzles that they sell both online and at your local pet stores?  The type of puzzles where you hide treats in them and your pup is supposed to figure out how to open the doors and other contraptions to "solve the puzzle" and get the treat. Well, my humans got me one. Oh sure, at first I was pretty excited about the smell of the treats in it, I'm a pretty food driven dog, but when they put it on the ground, I was pretty darn confused. I could smell the treats, but couldn't figure out how to get the tasty treats out of it. I'm a terrier, so I personally think I'm a naturally smart dude, but this contraption had me stumped. I tried everything to get the treats, sniffing at it, barking at it, begging my humans to get it out for me, and even walking away and letting it think I didn't care about it. Nothing made it give up its treats. Ridiculous. My humans tried and tried to encourage me. Finally, I figured out the quick flip one. Wha laaa, a treat!  So, now I was a lot more driven...to bark at my humans.

I think I am going to get this thing down. I just need a bit more time than they are giving me to write this. I will update it when I have all the doors and gadgets solved.  In fairness to me and my intelligence, my cousin G just patted at it and walked away. I'm a more curious guy.
