Having tried them in both Rome, along the ruins and even the exterior of the Coliseum, to Old Town Scottsdale for a fun, yet informative stroll around the sights and streets, both tours have been a great experience. They make for a quick zoom around a lot of sightseeing places, and many of them are in your closest city. You may think you know your city, and perhaps you do, but seeing the sites aboard these fun contraptions make it even better.
Most companies start their tour with a quick lesson on how to board, how to go forward, and the most important thing, how to stop. The ages allowed for this is really up to the tour company and location, but both the kids and adults have a pretty easy time figuring out how to balance and maneuver. This past week my youth, ( I am so very lucky to have been her mentor for the last 2 years) who is an outgoing 17 year-old young lady, and I decided Segway's would be a fun and unique day adventure for us both and a great bonding time, so we signed up with Scottsdale Segway Tours. For those hard-to-reach teens, this should be on every parent's bonding list. Instant cool-parent status from booking this and hanging out with them their way.
From my initial call, frantically trying to figure out parent permission slips, to the day-of call for the meeting locations, my concerns were answered by the friendly voice of Becca, who I felt I knew well before we got there. After a detailed instruction and a trial obstacle course, we were happily on our way. Now, I have lived around here for years and thought I knew most everything in the area, but their tidbits on the art and history of the area made me realize I did not know as much as I had thought.
I am not sure if the city history lesson, the beautiful weather, or the relaxed nature of easy conversation made it such a perfect day, but the "daredevil" in me would like to think it was zooming around town in the space age contraption, blowing by the other walking tourists. I can see why the creators thought this was a sure-fire take-off since it really is that easy. I know my teen and I wanted to take one home.
The tour companies we took and enjoyed were the Italy Segway Tours and the Scottsdale Segway Tours.
