Guest post written by Martha Gail-Moore. Martha currently resides in Texas.

Love the great outdoors, but prefer less rustic accommodations than tents and campfire cooking for your hunting trips? Texas has several five-star hunting ranches to suit your needs.  Whitetail deer hunting is one of the most popular animals to hunt in North America. And Texas has the largest population of whitetail deer in the U.S. and Canada with about four million animals. Texas’ five-star hunting lodges have become big business as people are taking hunting to a whole new level.

They offer gourmet dining and guestrooms that include private baths and showers. Rooms are furnished with lustrous fabrics, leather upholstery, and elegant artwork to match.  Some hunting ranches offer clay targets, bird hunting, and exotic animal hunting as well. For anglers, there’s ponds filled with fish and evenings can be spent playing billiards or black jack at the casino accommodations. Many Texas hunting ranches have rooms that can lodge large corporate events or private groups besides individual hunting adventures.

Whitetail deer like brushy, wooded areas and the Texas Hill Country provides excellent terrain to camouflage their grayish-brown coat in winter. The Hill Country also offers abundant food sources such as shrubs, fruit, and woody plants. The deer get their name from the white underside of their tails that they hold upright when running. The male buck deer grows new antlers every year and have one main beam per antler. In more mature bucks, they can have three or more points sprouting from the beam. After the breeding season, which is called the rut, they shed their antlers.  Texas hunting ranches have both trophy and guided hunts. Many ranches feature whitetail deer from the best genetic breeder bucks in the U.S. such as Diablo, The President, Bam Bam, 44 Mag, Blue Diamond, and Highway 10.  Stone Creek Hunting Ranch  near Gatesville, Texas offers not only whitetail deer hunts but also a wide variety of exotic animal hunts. Since the land is hilly, and not cavernous, getting the deer out is not problematic and the guides and staff of the ranches are available to help with tagging, field dressing, and trophy processing.

Look no further than the Texas Hill Country for your next whitetail deer hunting adventure and be sure to check out Stone Creek Hunting Ranch.

Psychics and Mediums in New York

2/17/2014

Lily Dale in New York is considered by many to be an epicenter for paranormal phenomena. "It is a spiritual community of the modern spiritual movement". Not only has this location been showcased on the Mentalist TV show, but it has frequent visitors from psychics and mediums including John Edward.  You can find demonstrations of clairvoyance at services that are held every day at Lily Dale Assembly during their season. They also have a Healing Temple for meditation. Although there is only a residential population of 275, a large percentage are considered mediums and spiritual healers.

The residents of Lily Dale take their experience and skills seriously and do not consider it to be a destination for a side show, but they do offer classes, retreats, and readings, as well as lectures for those who wish to participate. On their website, they offer a list of registered mediums with whom you can make an appointment. If this sounds like a place for you,  Lily Dale is located in Southwestern New York State about a one hour drive south of Buffalo.

Come on Down! The Price is Right Trip

Have you ever dreamed of hearing those three little words? Well, a game show trip is not as difficult as you might think. I will recap our trip to give you ideas and tips for your own game show adventure!
Our crew of eighteen gals headed out on a 36-hour adventure to meet Drew, attend a taping of The Price is Right, and cross our fingers that one of us would get picked to go on stage. Since we had been studying the prizes and prices of recently aired treasures' "retail values" for a few weeks, we were all confident and ready to go.

We began our journey at the airport because flights on Southwest to LAX were too reasonable to pass up. Our game show tickets were for Monday, so we flew in Sunday to extend our girl time. Choosing a hotel close to the studio was important because, quite frankly, getting eighteen gals up in the morning and out the door was going to be its own adventure. After dropping off our bags, we headed to the outdoor mall, The Grove, for some camaraderie in shopping. Once there, we picked up energy and celebrated our inner Divas by taking lots of posed photos all around the mall as our Facebooks hummed with "xyz just posted a photo of you".

Getting a bit hungry, we took a break for lunch at what is said to be the original farmers market at The Grove which has a wide enough variety of choices to make everyone happy. After lightening our wallets a bit, we headed back to the hotel to dress in our pre-planned bright pink shirts for dinner at SUR. You know the place, the one co-owned by Lisa Vanderpump from the Real Housewives of Beverly hills? Our evening was spent trying to spy our favorite scandalous characters and enjoying each others company. Perhaps a little too loudly, as fun groups can do, so trying to avoid adding to our group's infamy of craziness by being asked to leave, we happily headed back to our hotel.

The next morning, bright and early, the troop headed into the studio, on time I might add. The studio was easy to find with the lines and a crowd out front, so after meeting the group coordinator we headed in the gates to stand in line, get our pictures, and then have a group interview. Would any of us get picked?  We hoped so!  After about an hour or so wait, in which you could buy lunch before the show, we were brought in and sat down a few rows back, center stage!  Drew came out shortly after the MC purposely got us riled up and dancing for the cameras, and, let me tell ,when you walk in and see the stage you have dreamed of being on all your life, (or the month prior to going) you are already excited enough.

The sad news here is that we were not called to "Come On Down" but Drew did invite our birthday girl on stage during a commercial break. As for the taping, the stage was difficult to see during the game and of course the jewelry impossible, but we got to get a close up  view on their TV screen set to the audience. We cheered, we gave advice, and we danced. After the show taping and licking our wounds for not getting picked, we headed to the airport for our flight home.

With all of us dressed in our pink Price is Right shirts everyone asked us if we won anything all the way home. We may not have been picked, but we all decided it was well worth the trip regardless. As a disclaimer, this particular group of girls are just plain fun and crazy so make sure to bring along your wild crew for an equally  great time.

Visit the Price is Right website for tickets to upcoming shows.

Thank you Julie for our game show inspired journey

Training to be Genghis Khan

Have you ever thought, "Hey, I would love to learn how to be Genghis Khan"? Of course you have. Well then, look no further than the Responsible Vacation company. They host a 9-day adventure in Mongolia where you learn to saddle up after you have collected your tailor-made Mongolian robe (also known as a Del) that was made for you prior to your arrival and start your training with an archer to learn the bow and arrow.

According to their website, after you have donned your robe and learned about your bow, this is when your training comes into play. "Here, you will begin your warrior training with introductory lessons in archery and horse riding. After dinner at your ger camp, you will mount your horse and ride to a guarding post, maintaining the camp’s security and protecting the horses from wolves, enemies and thieves in the same way as Khan’s soldiers would have done 800 years ago overnight at ger camp".
The next day, you will learn how to make a traditional meal as well as learn how to make Mongolian milk products!  This entire vacation is about all things Genghis Khan.
If you are looking for a truly unique trip, I think this one would fit the bill!
