Adult Special Interest Groups-  Meetup

One of the biggest complaints I hear is that there are not enough things for adults to do that stimulate their interests. Most of the time, adults are doing what adults do.  Working, cleaning, and taking care of the kids. Each is necessary and rewarding, but sometimes you might want to say, "What about me?".

There is an online meeting group called Meetup and they connect people with similar interest AND they are worldwide.  It is free and simple to join. You go on the website, browse the things that interest you, and then you join the group. What I like best about this type of group event is that it's not something you have to go to every week or even every month. You go only when you are able. Some have small club fees, but most do not. The groups range from writing groups (Yes, I joined one and met some of the most amazing and talented people. I go every other week currently) to movie, coffee, and wine nights, as well some other very specific ones. There are groups revolving around  going to shooting ranges, scrap booking, cooking,
BBQ's, sporting events, and even night-clubbing.

I perused the website for a while, not sure whether I would be walking into a clique (no desire to relive middle school, I guess) or if it would be awkward.  OK, so it was a little bit awkward at first, but like everything I do, if I don't like something the first time, I try it one more time.  After the second time, I allow myself to take a pass. I liked it both times, but more the second time when I knew what to expect.  Since there are so many different ones out there, try a few until you find one that fits just right. Let me know how it works for you.

Very interesting article. May look into finding a group. Thanks!
